Introducing the ATO Agent Nomination Process

The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) has introduced a new procedure to enhance the security and integrity of your tax and super information. This process is crucial when you engage a new tax agent, BAS agent, or Payroll service provider, or when you modify the authorisations for your existing agent. It’s designed to protect your data and ensure that only your authorised agent can access your account and act on your behalf.

This agent nomination process is not applicable to individual taxpayers or sole traders currently. It specifically comes into play when there’s a change in your agent or the authoridations you provide.


Benefits of Nominating Traction as Your Official Agent

By nominating Traction as your official agent with the ATO, you allow us to:

  • Access your tax and super information securely.
  • Perform critical tasks, including lodging your tax returns and managing super affairs.

This nomination covers a broad range of entities, including companies, partnerships, trusts, not-for-profits, joint ventures, cooperatives, self-managed super funds (SMSFs), and APRA-regulated superannuation funds.


How We Assist in the Nomination Process

To nominate us, you’ll need to follow specific steps outlined by the ATO. If you haven’t set up access to Online Services for Business, that will be your first step. We’re here to guide you through this process:

  1. Initial Setup: If you haven’t yet, set up your access to the ATO’s Online Services for Business. This is a prerequisite for the nomination process.
  2. Nomination Guide: Use the ATO Agent Nomination Process Guide and Client-Agent Linking Steps for a step-by-step walkthrough of the process. We will also send you through our own customised questionnaire stepping you through the steps, to make it as easy as possible.
  3. Support and Assistance: While we cannot complete this process on your behalf, our team is ready to assist you at every step. If you encounter technical issues, particularly with your myGov account, we can help or direct you to the appropriate ATO support.
